Natural Sharpening Stone, Special Knives

This stone enables a smooth and precise sharpening for all Laguiole pocket knives 9 to 11 cm and small kitchen knives

  • This natural sharpening stone comes from the Saurat Valley below the Pyrenees mountain. It is handmade by French artisans with the label of “Patrimoine Vivant” (living heritage)
  • The fineness and abrasiveness of this stone, as well as its size, will make of it the perfect stone to sharpen knives 
  • The stone must be soaked in water for about 10 minutes before each use in order to obtain a finer sharpening and not damage the stone
  • As this is a natural stone, there is no defined grain size
  • Dimensions: 10 x 1.5 x 1.5 cm

The honing is done on a whetstone or an electric grindstone (grindstone needs to be perfectly round)

Before use, the whetstone has to be submerged in water for about ten minutes. A coarse-grained stone is used for gardening tools and a medium-grained stone for knives

Make a movement as if you wished to cut a thin slice out of the stone (keeping the same angle). Do this movement again alternating one side of the blade with the other. Wet the stone regularly during the grinding

Fixing the stone on a workbench using two clamps (contrary to what is shown on the picture below) will free both hands and make the honing easier
